Journey
–––
The idea of these 5 images birthed from a prayer with a scripture that was dropped upon me from the New Testament in the bible – *Acts 5:1-10.
The story is being crossed together with the story of Alice in Wonderland, where death is a constant and underlying menace. Alice takes risks that could possible kill her, but she never considers death as a possible outcome. However, over time, she starts to realize that her experiences in Wonderland are far more threatening than they appear to be. As the Queen screams “Off with its head!” she understands that Wonderland may not merely be a ridiculous realm where expectations are repeatedly frustrated. Death may be a real threat, and Alice starts to understand that the risks she faces may not be ridiculous and absurd after all.
Just like Ananias and Sapphira, who thought they were ambitious of being thought eminent disciples, when they were not true disciples. They were distrustful of God and his providence, and thought they can serve both God and mammon, thinking they could deceive God. They never considered death as a possible outcome – because who would have thought God would strike them down to the floor and die because of lying when there are even greater sins that can cause God to bring death to them? They never had the reverence of God in their heart and neither did the believers. However, when they see that death has become a real threat, they began to understand that the reverence of God is real, and that God wants us to revere Him because it is for the sake of our good. God only wants the good for us, and He is willing to strike off anything that comes in our way towards the good. It isn’t the journey through death for the couple – Ananias and Sapphira. It’s a journey through understanding God and His way of telling people that you can never deceive the Spirit of truth, and the truth will always be that He is good, and all that He wants for His children is nothing but the best. He wants to bring the church back to the Old Testament,
Exodus 20:20
Moses said to the people “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you, that you may not sin.” The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.

*Acts 5:1-10
––– 5:1 But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. 2 He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest. 3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. 4 The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!” 5 As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified. 6 Then some young men got up, wrapped him in a sheet, and took him out and buried him. 7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?” “Yes,” she replied, “that was the price.” 9 And Peter said, “How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too.” 10 Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened. |
