I met this man on a early Wednesday morning on my way to work overlooking the canal enjoying the sunlight but yet also with a tinge of sadness in his eyes. We had a conversation for a bit and he shared a little bit about his life with me — he suffered from a detached retina in each eye and became fully blind at the age of 29 years shortly after his graduation from University of Malaya inSingapore. Long story short, this man chased his dreams, turning his disability into gold but ultimately attaining his dream with frustrations and heartaches. Beautiful man, with a beautiful story. My heart cries for him.
I guess there are so many things that you can want in life, but when you don't depend and cling onto the one thing that keeps you going even through your successes, everything that you achieve will mean nothing. Very truly it is the little things (like this conversation I had with Mr Tan Guan Heng, author of Night Butterfly, published in 2001) in my life that shows of Your favor and how privilege I am to have one thing that remains. You.
With that, this image was born out of an article that Joseph (@firesandtimbers) has beautifully written about — the invisibles in Singapore's society and how privilege we are to have Christ — for SELAH (www.selah.sg). Would've never been able to dare myself to ask a stranger, much less a blind man, if I could take a photo of them. But here it is; I did it. Haha.
